THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEARING LEAVES

Leaves should be cleared from paths, grassed areas, gravelled areas, patios and all other surfaces in and around a garden. Not surprisingly, leaf clearance is most common and important in Autumn. Leaf clearance is particularly important on paths, drives and car parks which need to be free of hazards. Fallen leaves can cause surfaces to be very slippery if not cleared.

For example, a thick layer of dead and decaying leaves prevents natural light from getting to lawned areas - which worms will thrive on. In turn, the worms eat the leaves, pull them below the surface and create unsightly casts on the lawn.
