Fruits include strawberries, currants, raspberries and blackberries; and more or less any vegetable can be grown in raised beds. Raised beds are also perfect for establishing a garden for flowers, aplines, small trees and shrubs. The addition of raised beds in a garden creates an extra multi-level dimension compared to simple ground-level beds and borders.

Raised beds can be constructed from many materials in a vast array of styles, shapes anmd sizes. Commonly used materials include stone, pressure treated and untreated timber, repurposed railway and other wood sleepers, scaffold boards and brick.
